REGULAR TESTING
Practice Of Department Of Health When Cr. Huggan’s statement regarding the alleged irregularity of tests of milk was referred to him, Dr. F. S. Maclean, a medical officer of health, stated that there were regular tests made by officers of his department. Admittedly during the past few months these had not been us frequent as he would have liked, but this was due to short staffing. It was, however, an exaggeration to suggest no test for two years. It was a pity that those who had complaints djd not make them to the department, whose officer®’ services were always available to investigate such matters. The sampling took place in the early mornings, so that many people were unaware of samples being taken. That there had been few .prosecutions for milk adulteration in the Hutt in the past few years did not mean by any stretch of imagination that samples were not taken. This was done regularly except for the past few months, when ihe intervals between tests had been longer because of short staffing. If the council liked to undertake the sampling of milk in its borough, Ihe department would be only too glad for it to do so.
