New Zealand Letters For Hong Kong
SURCHARGE ABOLISHED All New Zealand correspondence for Hong Kong prepaid at the Empire airmail rate of lid. a half ounce, will be conveyed as from September 4, to its destination by air, according to a statement made by the Postmaster-General. Hon. F. Jones, in an interview last night. This rate does not apply to correspondence for China or other foreign countries served through Hong Kong. Mr. Jones said- that adviee had been received from the United Kingdom that commencing oh September 4, all letters from Great Britain for Hong Kong would 'be carried by air to their destination without surcharge. When the Empire airmail scheme was brought into operation in July the air service operating between Bangkok and Hong Kong was not included in the general arrangements for the carriage of letters by air to destination without surcharge. The charge for New Zealand correspondence intended to be carried by air to Hong Kong had been 6d. each half-ounce. “It is proposed that as from September 4 this surcharge be abolished,” said Mr. Jones, “and all New Zealand, correspondence for Hong Kong prepaid at the Empire rate of lid. each half-ounce will be conveyed to destination by air. The lid. rate will not apply to correspondence for China and other foreign countries served through Hong Kong. Correspondence for any foreign country concerned for whielr air dispatch is desired will still require to be prepaid at special rates.”
