The weather was fine, the wicket good, but the attendance small when the match between Australia and Sussex was resumed at Hove to-day. Brown (17) and Barnes (24) reopened Australia’s first innings from the overnight total of 47 for one wicket in reply to Sussex’s first innings total of 453. Brown was caught at the wicket off a ball coming through fast to which he played defensively. Barnes, after a stay of 100 minutes, played a ball on, with Australia still 26 behind. Barnett, promoted nearer the top, hooked and drove gloriously and soon wiped off the deficiency, while Badcock, after a couple of flashing fours, played cautiously. Details: — AUSTRALIA.
