“MOTHERS’ AND SONS’” NIGHT AT Y.M.C.A.
Hutt Valley Gathering
A “mothers and sons" night was held yesterday in the gymnasium of the Hutt Valley Y.M.C.A. The stage waa carpeted, and tue decorations were oi mu.ucoloured hydrangeas. The president, Mr. C G Hedge, welcomed the mothers aud suns.' The m, s were the members of the board, who arranged the programme and provided supper. There was a community sing, Mr. I'L Pulliser beiug at the piano. Mr. B. Burridge gave a vertnloijuist item, aud Mr. F. Steinmuher a displhy of conjuring. Mr. M. Brasted, national secretary oi the Y.M.C.A., then gave a talk on the duties of mothers and sons "Mother never lets us down,” said Mr. “Others may, but never mother. A mini once tried without success to estimate all the thingy a mother did —the number oi buttons sue sewed on, the number ut pies she baked, and so on. All attended the “university of hard knocks, but it they listened to mother more olten, the thumps would not be so frequent. Nearly 10,000 boys and girls, young men and young women, attended the Y M.C.A. physical classes throughout New Zealand, he said. The aim of the Y.M.C.A. was to cultivate a sound mind in a strong body, and to encourage the growth of a strong Christian character. Mr. Brasted said he felt it would be encouraging if the parents sometimes watched their boys and girls at work.
