VATICAN APPEAL TO AVERT WAR

“Disastrous Delusion”

Vatican City, August 18.

Count Giuseppe Torre, chief editor of the "Osservatore Romano,” appeals to Governments to avert war and repeats the Pope’s appeals for peace.

He describes the feeling of "impending catastrophe” which, is widespread in Europe as being created by many evils, in which he includes the German manoeuvres, the Sudeten crisis, the war in China, and general friction between many countries, and declares that nothing is more disastrous than the terrible delusion that war is a liberating force. The signing of the article indicates that it was read and approved by the Pope.
