Ou orders by llie Gestapo (Nazi secret police), Captain Thomas Kendrick. British passport control officer in Vienna, was arrested as he entered tlte old Keich on the way to England on furlough. Captain Kendrick is a Britisher and has occupjfd his present position for 18 years.
The charge is not revealed. The British Ambassador, Sir Nevile Henderson, lias asked the German Foreign Ministry for an explanation. Captain Kendrick was driving with his wife when he was stopped by the Gestapo. His wife was not arrested, but accompanied the party to Vienna. The arrest may be merely technical. Captain Kendrick was crossing an area proli ibi ted to foreign officers, and the authorities possibly were unaware, though Captain Kendrick held the rank of captain, that he was no longer in the service.
