Reveille
This scene was drawn by S. Elphick, Wellington.
TN this space, when all the hours are x fled Like birds, to the great trees beyond the plain, Where from the hidden bowery flowers begin, The world knows no more time and no more pain.
Then, could so small a thing as this, A bird from the thickets piping a pale lay— Awake the distant echo of the drums That set on fire the bugles of the day.
—Original by Mary Greig, Wanganui.
