Face Powder Facts
Do You Know . . . That there are three important qualities in a complexion powder. First,- its density or “body,” by which protection against sun and windburn is assured. Second, its astringency, keeping the pores of the skin closed during warmth and toniug the skin to a fine, even texture. Third, its purity and freedom from harmful ingredients. ■ That in order to obtain tr perfectly mutt skin, a specialist in Mayfair advises women to powder their faces while still damp from an application of a herbal foundation lotion. Her powders are in eight shades, including a green powder for toning down high complexions at night. Powder should be well dabbed over the face and neck with cotton wool and the surplus removed with a little of the cotton wool soaked in the foundation lotion. That there are 24 different shades of powder in a well-known .beauty parlour,
ranging from pure white, used ars a general rule in the Edwardian era, but now only in blends, to deep purple, also introduced discreetly into a blend for women with white hair. Those who wear black winter and summer in towns have a lovely shade called “bistree,” which gives the skin a pearl-like transparent look. That for those of you who have a greasy skin a powder cream is a great boon. Spread it smoothly over your face, and it gives a peach-bloom look to your complexion which stays on for hours. You can buy it in a slim tube that fits easily into your handbag so you can take it out with you to do “running repairs’ during the day. That for women, with dry skins of the type that begins to “line” after 30, there is a skin-food powder which definitely prevents freckling and contains an emollient to keep the skin supple if necessary.
