GAY ATMOSPHERE
Order Of Oddfellows' Annual Ball
A guy atmosphere pervaded the Mayfair Cabaret on a recent night, when the Grand United Order of Oddfellows held its very successful annual ball.
Members of both the Grand Lodge and the district council of the order were present in full lodge regtilia, and a special waltz number signified the official “parade” of the night. There were two official representatives of a visiting order present, Sister Torkington and Bro. G. Rudkin, of the Independent Order of Oddfellows. Beside the attractive programme of old-time and modern dances, there were several well-chosen items, which were very much enjoyed, including a • Spanish tango by Miss P. Collins and Master A. Cooper, a “song and dance” act by Master B. Hutchinson, a comic impersonation of Laurel ami Hardy, and a dual tap dance by Master A. Cooper and Master C. Currie, and rumba and waltz numbers by Mr. J. James and partner. A special feature was the “racing Monte Carlo.” a new version of this popular dance, which was won by Miss Strangemure and Mr. S. Palmer. An enjoyable supper was served.
At the close of the dance, Mr. R. Cooper, in capacity as grand master, thanked the guests for their support and said that in saying the night had been one of the order’s most successful efforts, he was voicing the opinion of everybody present.
