INTER-SCHOOL HOCKEY
Rankin Cup Competition Cancelled RISK OF INFECTION Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, August .19. Tbe annual compelitiou for the Bankia Cup, an inter-secondary schools’ hoekey tournament, which was to have been held in Wanganui from August 22 to August 26, has been cancelled because of the risk of infection among pupils. Nine schools from the North Island were to have competed this year. Billeting was arranged by Mr. A. D. Wooleott, a Technical College master, but to-day, after consultation with the Wanganui .Hoekey Association ami Dr. 11. L. Widdowson, medical superintendent of the Wanganui Public Hospital, it was decided to abandon the tournament.
“It was a question of what would happen if any boy became ill,” said Mr. Wooleott to-day. “I was told that the hospital could not accommodate any patient if sickness broke out among the boys, so there was nothing else for it but to cancel the competition. It is a great disappointment, but we now hope to take the Wanganui Technical College team to Auckland.”
