FRANK NEIL’S REVUE
Another Large Audience The Frank Neil Revue Company again delighted auotber capacity house at the Grand Opera House, Wellington, last night. Billy Costello, of Popeye the Sailorman cartoon fame, did. not appear, it being announced 1 that he was indisposed. A real novelty entertainment was urovided, however, ’by a versatile company of vaudeville-artists, w,ho. kept the audience at concert pitch with a wider and highly delightful programme. Adagio dancing, tumbling and burlesque classical dancing are only a few of the particularly strong dancing programme. The Richie Brothers give an energetic display of ridiculous dancing which tickles all who behold them. Harrie Dargie, harmonica player, gives a wide range of tunes, jazz and classical are rendered with ease. A real novelty in entertainment is provided by Billy Hayes, who juggles and cracks jokes at the same time. The audience* gets a few thrills from the acrobatic tumbling of the Kermode Brothers, anotherjmrn printed in heavy type on the programme. They perform 'at top speed and cram a tremendous number of tumbles, falls, somersaults, handsprings and laughs into the minimum of time.
Syd Page and Joey Porter, who, although contrasling in type, provide a good foil for each other, and supply quips and conundrums by the score which has the audience reeling in laughter.
' Spectacular scenes are interspersed with the specialty acts, the chief feature of these being a ballet of ten drilled to a greater precision than is usual with revue ballets seen in New Zealand and of greater versatility. Assisted by five statuesque pretties whose principal duty is to walk and pose with fantastic headgear, and by Kay Zanimil, Betty Lambert and Mavis Ritijhie at the microphone, the ballot danced through “The Music Shop.” “Kifty Million Hobins,” “By the Wafers of Minnetonka,” “Making Faces,” “In Old Vienna,” and “Old Fashioned Ladies."
