DE LUXE THEATRE

* “Bulldog Drummond’s Peril”

The discovery of a formula for producing synthetic diamonds leads to Bulldog Drummond’s peril in the nlm ot tnar name" which heads; the new programme at the L>e Luxe Theatre. Drummond, whose marriage.plans are consistently interrupt ed, this times gets as far as being in Switzerland for his

wedding to Louise Campbell when the story opens. Among the bridal gifts, however,’ is a synthetic diamond; and this potential threat to the legitimate diamond business so disturbs a villainous dealer that he commits theft and mur-

der to secure the stone and the formula for making it, thus bringing Bulldog Drummond on his trail and once again postponing the latter’s wedding. As before, John Howard plays the indomitable amateur sleuth, with assistance from Reginald Denny and E. E. Clive, but rather less help than usual from John Barrymore, who ,us the Scotland Yard detective, is inclined to be sceptical about Drummond’s peril until near, the finale. Though not always credible, the story is never dull, being full of exciting chases, fights and escapes. •The inimitable fpolery of Graeie Allen, who can always be rej(ed upon to say or do the wrong thing most amusingly, is the strong point of “College Swing,” the second feature on the programme. f Popeye's adventures (in two reels and in colour) when he encounters Ali Baba's Forthy Thieves are also featured on theprogramme.
