SHORTAGE OF FAT STOCK
Auckland Meat Prices May
Increase
Dominion Special Service. Auckland, August 12. A growing shortage of fat stock and increased overhead costs may resu.t m an increase in the price of some lines of meat in Auckland. Moat sold in Dunedin has already advanced li.v an average of Id. a lb., and although no action lias yet been taken by Auckland retailers, it is feared that if tiie firming tendency for beef continues, a slight rise in price will be inevitable. A. considerable shortage ot prime cattle is feared by Auckland butchers within tiie next few months, according to a statement by Mr. H. C. Bridges president of tiie Auckland Master Butchers’ Association. No increases in price were planned for tiie present, and. although (lie market had firmed considerably at tiie last Westfield sale, it had not yet reached a stage where advances in cost would have to be passed on.
