DE LUXE THEATRE

* “Leave It To Me”

Sandy Powell carries most of the weight of his third picture. “Leave It To Me,” now at the De Luxe Theatre, on his own shoulders. H «' v f ev n er ’ ]r ‘Xek not likely to prove much of a draw bat h to his host of admirers who may, indeed, even welcome the fact that there is hardly anybody else worth noticing. There is very little cohesion to the story, which, in the main, is simply a series of hall turns transferred to the screen, lhes enable Sandy to don a wide variety of disguises and further prove his versatility as an entertainer by doing some amusing dancing. The film opens brightly with Sandy being turned down for the regular police force, signing up instead as a special constable and becoming involved with a gang of Chinese crooks? In the course of his rambling adventures, he masquerades ns a queen of the harem, an all-in wrestler, a Chinese mandarin, a ballroom dancer, and a member of high society. Everything, including Sandy s singing, is on broadly farcical lines, and often very laughtable. The second feature, “Renfrew of the Royal Mounted,” is most notable for the attractive singing and quite competent acting ef a screen newcomer named Janies Newill, who is seen as the “Mountie” hero of a melodrama of the Canadian woods

involving a gang of counterfeiters. The

film is rather like an unpretentious version of “Rose Marie,” with some tuneful and lusty music, beautiful outdoor scenery, and a schoolboyisli but fast-moving and often exciting plot. It's quite worth seeing .
