TRADE TREATIES
British Manufacturers’
Opinions
“Oiir views on trade treaties with foreign countries have been forwarded to the Government and we believe will serve a useful purpose,” states the United Kingdom Manufacturers and New Zealand Representatives’ Association in its annual report. “We stressed, as we always have done, that tlie United Kingdom is New Zealand’s greatest and safest market, and that while we are not antagonistic in any way to international trade, New Zealand’s chief efforts must lie directed toward conserving and safeguarding tlie United Kingdom market for New Zealand primary produce, and tlie only practical way to do this is by purchasing United Kingdom goods and allowing them into this market with as few restrictions as possible; in other words, the simple but unassailable policy of reciprocity. We have also drawn attention to the desirability of consideration and, if necessary, revision of tlie most favoured nations agreements and this lias tlie attention of the Government.”
