Lp to the 300 mark both men kept, well together, and il was largely neek to neck. At this stage Whitford took command and making consecutive breaks ol 32 and 3. gained a comfortable lead. . Armstrong was not able to turn ou a big break and the ■mine ended Whitford 400. Armstrong 32i. Whitford gave rather the brighter, and more finished exhibition, but the opinion is strongly held that with a little conchin-' iu the liner points Armstrong would be exceedingly difficult to beat. _ The best breaks were Whitford 44, 36. 59. 24, 32. 39. anil Armstrong 24. *l3. 22, 39, 37. The second game was between Duncan and Abe Wakein (Federal). Both these men have held the Wellington district amateur championships, but their play, for some reason or other, was not very inspiring. Duncan did not reproduce the form that he did in his previous game with Peck and W'nkem was not consistent, though there were times when both players showed glimpses of their ability. Dunean showed some respect for his opponent, mid time and again played deliberate safety rather than risk a difficult sb t and leave an opening. The game endred: Dunean 'lOO. W aki-iu 353. and the best breaks were: Duncan, 24. 21. 68, and 26 ; Wnkom, 2-\ 20. 26. To-night at 7 o'clock Whitford plays , Dunean, and at $ o'clock Moses plays Stuart.
