Farmers in Central Hawke's Bay have been exceptionally fortunate in the small stock losses during the recent cold and wot weather. Though lambing was already in progress when the recent snowfalls occurred, the mortality was very low. and further heavy rain and a violent gale on Tuesilny night have not added seriously to that mortality.
Some farmers have observed a peculiar fact in regard tn lamb mortality this season. They report that their losses have been most heavy among twin lambs. Other farmers have taken the precaution of using covers for all stock, oven sheep. On one farm on tile Takapan Road lambs can be seen frisking about in knitted woollen jerseys.
