Notes On The Players STRONG NEW ZEALAND SIDE The New Zealand secondary schools’ Soccer team to tour Queensland and New South Wales during the August term holidays should give a good account of itself and the experience gained by the 16 hoys chosen should be invaluable in improving the standard of the game in the Dominion. Munro (Otago Boys High School) rs an active and very reliable goalkeeper, of ■mod height and long reach, excellent at Hose quarters as well as at longer rangeHe has played in goal tor eeveial yea. . but if the necessity arose could play equally well in the forward line P R Davey (Christchurch Technical Higl’i School) is sft. 9Jiu. tall and weighs 9st. 101 b. He is a fifth form boy aud u school prefect who plays m the school Soccer eleven and in the third grade team under the Canterbury I ootoall Association on Saturdays. usually plays in goal, but. has also played right wing aud inside right.. He is a very fair athlete, having performed well in school sports in cross-country running and in 220 and -HO yards events. Taylor (Mount Albert Grammar School) is sft. Sin- tall and weighs 10st. sin. Regarded as the best 'back of his age in Auckland, he is equally at home in any position in the backs or halves. Boddy (Mount Albert Grammar School I is another player callable ot nil in- either a half-back or a full-back position. His height is sft. 9in. and he weighs 9st. 51b. A Nuggety Half. Richardson (Otago Boys’ High School) is >i nuggety half-back with a remarkable sense of positional play. Very sure-toot-ed he delivers shrewd and accurate passes and will face anything with precision and confidence. Richardson, who revels in mud and slush, plays equally well at wing half, although centre hall is his best Pla ßucklaud (Otago Boys’ High School), who has been chosen as left half, is a lithe and natural player with all the qualities of a wing half. 1 osvessing a keen sense of anticipation, he is very hard to elude aud, in addition, is able to kick with either fool. A Faul (Wanganui Technical GdUegO weighs 9st. 71b. and is sft. 6m. tall. Ot a quiet disposition, he plays a good game at centre half. He is captain of hie school eleven and is sound on attack or Me Lean (Hawke’s Bay Junior H'gh School) is a good centre or right half. His height is sft. 10m. A determined tackler and a reliable kick, he is particularly good at heading. . F J Shanuahan (Christchurch Technical High School) usually plays centre half but cau play anywhere m the halfback or full-back line. His.height is Mt. Ilin, and his weight 12st. He is a school prefect and in addition is also a very fair Athlete. Has Represented Wellington.
D. P. Xeoinan (WelUngton Technical College) is regarded as the most outstanding young player m Wellington for many years. Although only 10, he plays centre forward in the Seatoun senior team and has represented Wellington at inside right. He uses his height and weight to advantage and is an excellent C. . Christopherson Technical College), who has been selected as outside left, is another young player of whom great things - are expected. His speed and footwork make him constant! v dangerous and when not m a position to shoot he centres the ball accurately and with judgment. . J R Singer (Petone Technical High School) plays either at centre forward or at inside left. A natural left-footer and very fast, he kicks well with either foot. A dashing type of forward who combines well with his team mates, be controls the ball cleverlj T , is a good header and an excellent shot. Irvine (Mount Albert Grammar School) is regarded as the best ot the Auckland forwards- aud is- equally at home at centre forward, inside left or mside right. His height is 6ft. and he weighs list. 31b. McLachlan (Mount Albert Grammar SchooD, whose height is sft. 7in. and weight Bst. sin„ usually plays on the lett wing. He combines well,, is fairly fast and cau play in any position. . 11. McKenzie (Wellington .technical College) plays at outside left or left halt. His footwork is sound and he is a thoroughly reliable player. Clarke (Otago Boys High School) is a versatile player at inside left, where bis powerful kick ean be turned to advantage. A good header from corner kicks, he has a well-developed sense of combination, backed up by clever footwork. The Managers. The managers of the team, which is to leave on August 19, are Messrs. J. ST. Walls, of the Wellington Technical College, and Mr. W. R. H. Martin, of the Mount Albert Grammar School, Auckland. Mr. Walls is a .member of the council of the New Zealand Football Association and both have been connected with the game for many years.
