MONDAY’S WRESTLING

With Leo Numa and Dick Raines as the principals in next -Monday's wrestling contest at the Town flail, the Wellington wrestling public will see one of the most attractive bouts of the season. After both had hud highly successful seasons in Australia, Haines was the first to come to New Zealand, and right from his first bout be commenced to give truly sensational displays every time he entered the ring. His performances against Blomfield, Braley, Detton, and others have caused him to establish himself as a first-rate wrestler, as well as a warm favourite with the crowds. Big and powerfully-built, he has in his great strength and toughness an asset which he does not hestitate to exercise to file utmost. With his “back-breaker” hold he can finish the toughest of opponents, and few nre able to carry on once they have fallen foul of it. Numa has had only one bout, in Wellington so far, but in that —against Dean Detton—he acquitted himself so well that there was an immediate demand for another appearance on his part as soon as possible. By drawing with the ex-champion Numa showed that there need be no doubts about, his wrestling ability and the manner in which he achieved that result pleased the crowd greatly.
