YESTERDAY’S WEATHER
Wellington.— Overcast mid at times misty with occasional rain, which became continuous during the afternoon. A very boisterous north-westerly gale _ was blowing, ami shortly before 1 o clock yesterday afternoon gusts at Kelpurn * reached 72 miles an hour. A fierce hailstorm, with heavy rain, fell a few minutes after 7 p.m.. the rain continuing for some time. Temperatures were mild. The minimum temperature on Monday night was 46.1 deg., and the maximum vesterday was ol.4deg. At 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon the temperature was 47.8 deg., and the barometer reading was 29,522 in. Palmerston North. — The morning was moderately sunny with passing cloud and a northerly breeze. The afternoon was intensely dull with black, heavy clouds and a freshening north-westerly wind. Temperatures were mild. Wanganui.—A strong northerly wind, moderate sea, sky overcast, showery. The barometer reading at 4 p.m. was 29.45 in., falling. New Plymouth.— Heavily overcast with a northerly wind of strong to gale force. Heavy driving rain developed in the afternoon. The barometer at 5 p.m. read 29.70 in. Wttipukuran.—A sharp frost was followed by a cold and overcast day. The maximum temperature was 50deg. Napier and Hastings — Overcast, with a strong north-west wind. Auckland. — Wind at times of moderate to gale force with occasional rain. The maximum temperature .was 57deg. Barometric pressure fell steeply, and the reading at 5 p.m. was 29.70 in. Christchurch. — Fine aud overcast with a north-west gale. The maximum temperature was G2.Bdcg. The barometer dropped sharply to 29.10 in. at 5 p.m.
