Sir Harry Luke, who has been appointed Governor of Fiji and High Commissioner for the AVestern Pacific, in succession to Sir Arthur Richards, will be a passenger to Suva by the Niagara, when the liner leaves Arancouver on August 31. He will be officially received at Suva on September 16. ’ Mr. C. R. Ford, Auckland, is visiting Wellington. Mr. A. L. AVall, AVellington, was a passenger for Auckland last night by the Limited express. Mr. R. B. Tingey, Auckland, arrived at AVellington from the north yesterday. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates arrived at Wellington from Auckland yesterday by the Limited express.
Mr. J. H. Luxford. S.M., AA'ellington, has taken up his duties as relieving magistrate iu Auckland.
Dj\. G. F. AL Anson returned to AVellington yesterday after a visit to the South Island.
Mr. K. AV. Dalrymple, Bulls, was a passenger from the south by the steamer express yesterday. Mr. D. AV. Dunlop, secretary of the Auckland Education Board, and Mr. A. D. Miller, architect, are visiting AA rellington. Mr. A. Gerrand, service manager for Union Airways of New Zealand, Ltd., left AVellington for Palmerston North yesterday by air.
Mr. John Farrell, Auckland, is visiting AVellington on business concerning the coining season of the Frank Neil Company. Mr. AV. R. Carey, manager of the Kaiapoi Woolen Company, arrived at AVellingtoh yesterday from the South island by the steamer express. The Hon. J. A. Hanau, M.L.U., chancellor of the University of New Zealand, arrived from the south by tlie steamer.express yesterday.
Professor A. 11. Tooker and Mr. C. P. Agar, members of the Government's Guaranteed Price Advisory Committee, arrived at Wellington from Christchurch yesterday. Mr. H. M. Christie, M.P. for Waipawa, who lias 'been attending the International Wool Conference in London, is a passenger by the Rangitane, due at Auckland on August 24. Mrs. Christie accompanies him.
Mr. G. A. Maddison, mayor of Hastings, will sail for Sydney by the Awatea from Wellington to-day. He will be away about three weeks or a month. At a meeting of the Hastings Borough Council last night, the deputy-mayor, Cr. A. I. Rainbow, on behalf of councillors, wished Mr. Maddison a pleasant holiday and hoped be would return in the best of health.
The Rev. Harold Irving, Th.A., formerly assistant city missioner in Wellington, returned to New Zealand by the Mariposa on Friday from Fiji, where he had been curate at the Suva Pro-Cathedral, missionary in charge of the Solomon Heritage in the colony of Fiji, and an assistant master at St. John’s Melanesian School in Suva. Mr. Irving has resigned because of illhealth. He is to undergo an operation in the Mater Miseracordia Hospital in Auckland, and will then spend a lime with his parents nt Waitiku before taking up church work again, in the Dominion.
