VISIT TO RANGITATA
Wellington College Navy League Members
The heavy rain yesterday afternoon could not damp the enjoyment of a large partv of boys, Navy League school members from Wellington College, who visited the 17,040-ton motor-liner Rangitata as Hie guests of the New Zealand Shipping Co., Ltd. The boys, numbering abput 100, were under the charge of the headmaster, Mr. W. A. Armour, and two of his assistant masters, Messrs. T. Hislop and J. Beckett. The party were received on board the ship by Mr. L. A. Sheet, representing Mr. C. M. Turrell, general manager of the New Zealand Shipping Co., Ltd.. Captain F. E. Tether, marine superintendent and Captain E. Holland, cpjnniander of the Rangitata. Under the guidance of the ship’s officers and engineers, the boys made a complete tour of the ship, being shown the passenger accommodation, the navigating bridge, the engine-room and the cargo stowage. A good ending to a most instructive afternoon came when the boys wore entertained at afternoon tea.
On behalf of the boys, Mr. Armour thanked Captain Holland and the ships people, as well as the management of the New Zealand Shipping Company, for their hospitality. A neat little speech of thanks was also made by Green, one of the school prefects, at whose call the boys gave three cheers and performed a vigorous haka.
