A crowd, witnessing the arrest of Mrs. Pankhurst, cried : ‘'Burn her 1” Six other Suffragettes were also arrested. One hundred police were engaged iu making the arrests.

One of the first impressions of Wellington a visitor arriving by sea gets is the bare and rocky-faced Ward Island, one of the landmarks that define the fairway. Filled with Arbor Day enthusiasm, a party of yachtsmen recently decided to try to improve the appearance of the island by planting it with hardy native trees. A start with tlie work was made during the week-end. Tlie cliff face fronting the city (Hie western aspect) was planted with ice-plant, and ns many as seventy native trees were planted in suitable and sheltered Tositione.
