Water And Sewerage At

Plimmerton

LOAN OF £34,000 A decision to apply to the Local Government Loans Board for sanction to the raising of a loan of £34,000 for water and sewerage at Flimmerton and for a loan of £15,000 for private connections to the sewerage scheme was made by the Hutt County Council at the monthly meeting yesterday. Cr. S. Blackley presided. ” The loan of L]4,000 will be secured by a special rate of 3d. in the £1 on the capital rateable value, and the loan of £15,000 will be for seven years. The Employment Division of the Department of Labour advised'that if both water and sewerage schemes were proceeded with at ouce assistance would be granted. The qounty clerk, Mr. H. R. Robinson, said that 10 objections had been received to the council's proposal to apply to the Local Government Loans Board for its sanction to the borrowing of £5OOO. to construct a road at Raumati to give access to beach sections. The council decided to apply to the board for its sanction to the loan, and to forward the objections with the application. Tile Raumati-Kawatiri road is to give access to a number of sections -which have only sea beach access. These sections are each of half an acre, and face on to a Wellington-Foxton. coach road, whick exists only on paper. A request that the council raise a loan of £lOOO over the company’s land of 3900 acres, and obtain labour from the employment division, Labour Department, to widen and deepen a drain, was received from Wainui-o-mata Development, Ltd. . „ The member for the riding, Mr. J. B. Yaldwin, was instructed to report to the next meeting of the council on the subject. Day’s Bay Loan. Special rolls of ratepayers for the water and sewerage loan schemes for Point Howard, Lowry Bay, York Bay, Mahina Bay and Day’s Bay, are to be drafted, according to a decision made by the council. The engineer is to complete plans and estimates as soon as possible, and these, together with the rolls, will be submitted to a meeting of the council. The need for a public hall at Plimmerton was stressed in a petition from. 75 ratepayers and residents of the district. The council decided to advise the ratepayers that the matter would be dealt with after the water and drainage problems had been settled. It was decided to call for tenders forthwith for the construction at Plimmerton of a seawall, footpath and kerbing, and for filling in the area behind the wall. During June, 28 building permits of a total value of £6060 were issued, said the report of the sanitary and building inspector, Mr. S. P. Pushman. The council approved of a measure enabling it to make a contribution not exceeding £l5O to the Wellington Free Ambulance. A decision to accept an offer from the Wellington Beautifying Society of 500 trees for planting at Plimmerton was made. The offer included 300 pohutukawa_. 100 ake ake. and 100 veronica trees.

The council agreed to grant £5O toward the boy scouts’- international jamboree, which will be held in Wellington at the end of next year.
