Motor-car By Telegraph —Pres« Association. Auckland, July 20. Arrested at Newmarket on Saturday evening after his motor-car had collided with a tram at an intersection, David Vincent Cullinane, aged 34, bank clerk, admitted in ' the Alagistrates’ Court to-day that he was intoxicated while in charge of a vehicle. Defending counsel said that Cullinane had come from the country to relieve at a suburban bank and had met a friend on Saturday afternoon. He had three bottles of beer, and did not remember getting into the car. Neither did he remember the accident. The magistrate, Air. C. R. OrrAValker, said he did not like to send a bank officer or anyone to prison, but he had to consider public interest, adding : “However much I regret to do such a thing, I have to impose a term of two weeks’ imprisonment.” Cullinane's driving licence was cancelled for 12 months.
