TOTALS FOR VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS

Increases In Most Cases In the Consolidated Fund, debit services total £9,554,230, an increase of £103,000 over last year. Exchange amounts to £1,800,000, a decrease of £7678 on last year. The highways account total is £3,161,000, an increase of £346,000. This item of expenditure is covered by a similar amount in the revenue account.

Under the heading of other special Acts, the total is £509,714, a decrease on last year of £978,000. Last year’s figure, however, included £853,897 transferred to reserve.

The vote for the legislative department is £102,350, which shows little alteration on last year’s figures. The Prime Minister’s Department vote is £24,395 and the finance group of departments, including the Treasury, £441,679, a decrease of £32,000 on last year.

The general administration group vote is £1,562,466, a decrease of £22,000. The vote for law and order group, including the justice and prisons departments, the Crown law office and ■police, comes to £958,282, an increase of £22,000. Under the heading of separate accounts, the land for settlement account total is £345,000, an increase of £78,479. The State coal mines total vote is £387,797, an increase of £70,000, and the State forests vote is £510,835, an increase of £229,702 on last year.

The Post Office account total is £3,907,039, an increase of £319,252. The Public Trustee’s account is £358,553, an increase of £5724; the national trustee’s account £14,700; the Government Insurance, £295,167, an increase of £40,978; the Public service superannuation total £9440, an increase of £1400; State Fire Insurance, £104,290, an increase of £27,549; Government Accident, £33,470, an increase of £5000; the Dairy Industry Account, £51,794, a decrease of £7194; Internal Marketing Department, £53,323, an increase of £34,000. Provision in the present estimates in regard to the latter vote includes a full year’s working, whereas last year only portion of the year’s vote was included.
