By Telegraph— Pi-csh Association. Auckland, July 19.
After an absence of 25 years from New Zealand, Mr. R. J. (“Ru”) Cooke, a former A.ll Black, arrived from Sydney by the Wanganella, “just to see some of the old sports and have a look around generally.” Since 1913 he ha.s been in business in Melbourne. He was a member of the All Blacks who visited Australia in 1903, when he was a Christchurch resident. He was prominent in ail sports and refereed several amateur boxing championships in Christchurch, Timaru, and Dunedin, and was also a successful racing cyclist.
“I have a host of friends to visit,” he said. “We can spend many happy hours lighting old battles over again. Then I want, to see Rotorua, the new Napier, and Wellington, and I may go to Christchurch, but I want to leave for Australia about the beginning of August.” He said the popularity of Rugby was increasing in Melbourne, and it drew splendid crowds. His brother, Alf. Cooke, was also an All Black in 1904.
