GAY REUNION

St. Mary's College Old

Girls' Ball

Among the most enjoyable dances this season, have been those arranged by old girls’ associations, and to them must be added the annual ball of the St. Mary’s College Old Girls’ Association, which was held last night in the ■St. Francis Hall, Wellington.

Artificial japonica was the keynote of the decorative scheme, and was arranged all along the walls of the hall and at the foot of the stage. On opposite sides of the hall was the emblem of the college in black and white, the school colours, and on each side of the emblems black and white streamers were looped. Flags decorated the entrance hall and the stairway, and were hung along the side of the gallery. The hostesses were Miss Mary Butler, president of the association, who was wearing a black velvet frock with a scarlet shoulder spray; Mrs. E. J. Peare, who was in wine-red lace, patterned with a gold lame thread; and Mrs. B. Weyburne, who was in a black velvet gown. There were many old girls and their friends present, some of whom had come from other centres, and the dance was a particularly friendly one. The seats at the side of the hall, which are usually in two orderly rows, were quickly rearranged into groups, where the many parties of friends met between dances. A number of the girls at the ball had left school quite recently, and among the many lovely frocks white was a conspicuous colour. For those who preferred to play bridge games had been arranged in the lounge upstairs. One of the features of the ball was a ballet of nine ex-pupils trained by Miss Patricia McNamara. Their graceful frocks of blue taffeta had. long circular skirts, caught up with silver bows and worn over silver tarletan. In their hair they wore white marguerite daisies. The dance was a slow movement to waltz time, and in a soft blue spotlight was most effective and graceful. The girls taking part were: Patricia McNamara, Mary Ferris, Agnes Emerson, Margery White, Constance Lonergan, Margaret Elleray, Patricia Whelan, Donalda Woodward And Margaret McDonald. Supptfr was served do'wnstairs in a room hung with huge flags, and decorated with spring flowers in golden tones, arranged in tall silver epernes. The committee responsible for the ball consisted of Mrs.,E. Pegg. Mrs. G. Villars, Misses D. Hunter, M. Reeves, D. Dealy, D. Milner, G. Loftus, P. McDermott, and P. McNamara.
