Scripture Examination
The interest of British people in the English Bible has been brought iiifo some prominence in the last fortnight by the celebration of.the 400th centenary of the placing of the • English Bible in every parish church. The ..Wellington Sunday School Union, whose work is based on Bible teaching.- bold its annual Scripture examination during the week-end. More than 900 entries were received, showing n considerable interest, in the study of the Word of God. The union embraces the Baptist. Church of Christ. Congregational. Methodist and Presbyterian Churches, and covers the Wellington provincial area, a total of 92 schools being aflilinfod. This year the examiners arc Mrs. W. A. Paterson: M.A.. Mrs. N. F. Callum. Mr. E. Fell ham. 8.A.. and Mr. H. D. Groeott. Candidates in the city and suburban areas were grouped in 10 examination places and effective co-operation was given by the .different denominations in Ihe provision of supervisors and in the working of the centres. Poring the afternoon a flying visit paid In- the president of the union. Mr. W. F. Stock, and Mr. G. E. Turney helped to assist in the standardising of control. For several years the awards to successful candidates have been made in seven or eight sectional rallies, but this year it is intended to hold a combined rally in 'Wellington.. It will bo hold during September and will bo of groat interest to all concerned with the welfare of boys mid girls. Arrangements arc being inade for flip? training of a large children's choir under the leadership of Mr. and Mrs. Howe.
