THREE MONTHS’ HARD LABOUR FOR THEFT
Three months’ hard labour was the penalty imposed on Patrick Graham Kennedy, labourer, aged 18, by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., iu the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday. Kennedy pleaded guilty to a charge of theft. DetectiveSergeant P. Doyle, who prosecuted, said complainant and accused were employed in the same office. They worked at night, and at 1 a.m. on the morning in question, complainant missed £4 in notes from rhe pocket of his coat, which was hanging behind him.
Accused admitted the theft when he was interviewed by two detectives. He stated he had given £2 to a friend and had spent the rest on cigarettes and entertaining his friends. It was stated by the police that it was not accused’s first appearance before the court.
