New Songs Introduced By Musical Films
rpHE song hits of to-morrow are in the movies of to-day. More than two-thirds of the popular songs now on the market are introduced on theatre screens throughout the country. People hear them, begin whistling the catchy airs, sing them lustily in the bathtub, and before long the whole country is humming them. “Manhattan Merry Go-Round” was trade shown recently in Wellington, and in
it are a series of new tunes which are destined to be popular soon. “Have You Ever Been in Heaven?” and “I Owe You,” sung by Phil Regan to Ann Dvorak, are romantic numbers which will set plenty of hearts throbbing. “Mama, I Wanna Make Rhythm,” offered by Cab Calloway, the famous negro dance-band leader, is a specialty number delivered in the “hi-de-ho” manner made famous in this dusky’s “Minnie the Moodier.” “All Over Nothing at All” will come in for its share of popularity, as will “Round-up Time in Reno,” and the “Musical Magical Man” number sung by Ted Lewis and his Orchestra. This production brings together a great ’collection of screen stars and radio stars.
