MILITARY PARADE

King’s Birthday Ceremonial

MAYOR TO TAKE SECOND SALUTE

In addition to the march past the Chief of the General Staff, Major-Gen-eral J. E. Duigan, C. 8., D. 5.0., which will be carried out by the troops parading at Wellington on Monday in honour of the King's Birthday, a further salute will be paid to the mayor of Wellington, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, who will also inspect the Ist Battalion, the Wellington Regiment. The mayor will take the salute, in front of the Town Hall, past which the troops will march after parading through the city from Aotea Quay. He will be accompanied by Colonel I. T. Standish, C.M.G.. D. 5.0., R.N.Z.A., A.D.C. to the King, O.C. the Central Military District. After passing the Town Hall the troops, with the exception of the Wellington Regiment, will continue on to their respective dismissal ..areas. The regiment will move into Wakefield Street, and will remain there till the tail of the main column has passed, when it will move off and form up in line in Cuba Street, facing the main entrance of the Town Hall, for the inspection. After the inspection it will inarch to Buckle Street to return colours and dismiss.

It is probable that the best place to see the main march on Monday will be from the high ground in front of Parliament Buildings. The inspection by the Chief of the General Staff and the Royal Salute ceremony will not be visible from there, however, as they are to lie carried out on Aotea Quay. The base from which the salute will be taken by the Chief of the General Staff will be between Waterloo Quay and Fryatt Quay. It was previously announced that all but cadet units would parade if the day were wet, but this order has’been countermanded and in the event of wet weather the whole of the parade will be cancelled. If the parade is cancelled this will be announced by radio, and the Royal Salute of 21 guns will be fired from Point Jerningham at 8 a.m. instead of at approximately 10 a.m., when the order of the Chief of the General Staff would be signalled from Aotea Quay.
