WEEK-END WEATHER
Wellington.— Saturday was overcast with a ■ fresh north-westerly wind. Intermittent rain fell during the evening and there was a very heavy fall iu the early incurs of Sunday morning, the total recorded up to 9 a.m. being 33 points. The wind rose during Saturday night and continued at ■ gale force, a maximum gust 68 miles an hour being recorded at Kelburu at about 5 a.m. Yesterday morning was overcast and- boisterous, but the wind gradually moderated and the weather rapidly improved, the afternoon being fine and sunny. The temperatures during the week-end were cool to moderate, the maximum on Saturday being 60.1 deg., and yesterday 60.8 deg. The minimum temperature on Saturday night was 47.8 deg. Palmerston North.— Tlie week-end was dull and threatening with low cloud. Showers fell intermittently both on Saturday and yesterday. Temperatures remained fairly mild. Masterton.-— Bright sunshine on Saturday morning, but overcast in the afternoon with cool south-westerly breeze. Yesterday was tine but overcast, and warm, after rain overnight. Wanganui.— Saturday was fine and sunny with a light breeze. Sunday was dull and overcast, with heavy rain. Temperatures during the week-end were warm. Napier and Hastings.— Saturday was a very raw day, but most unseasonably warm weather prevailed yesterday. . A light and very mild westerly wind arose yesterday morning and temperatures steadily increased until they reached 74deg. soon after midday. At sundown the temperature did not fall steeply as usual, the evening being mild and summery. New Plymouth.— There was bright sunshine on Saturday. Yesterday morn- ' ing was cloudy with heavy rain. The afternoon was overcast but sunny, with a light southerly breeze. The barometer at 5 p.m. read 29.8 in. Auckland. — Continued unsettled weather, conditions being showery with a fresh wind on Saturday from the south-west and on Sunday from the north to northwest. The maximum temperature was 65deg. The barometric pressure was fairly steady until early yesterday morning when it begun to fall, the reading lit 5 p.m. being 29.Soin. Cliristchurcli. — Except for light rain on Saturday night the week-end'was fine. Saturday was dull and mild with a maximum temperature of 52.8 deg. and no wind. Yesterday was sunny with a north-west. wind. The barometer, after falling steadily, recovered yester- ■ day afternoon, the 4 p.m. reading being 29.55 in. Dunedin. — It was (lull on Saturday morning and rain fell in the afternoon, becoming steady in the early evening. The day was cold though there was little wind, and the maximum temperature was 56deg. The barometer was steady at 29.94 in. in the morning, but fell sharply later. There wa s a pronounced improvement yesterday, when brig’ht sunshine and an absence of wind made conditions very pleasant, the maximum temperature for the day being 62deg. The barometer continued to”fiill throughout the greater part of the (lay but remained fairly steady at 29.41 in. in the late afternoon and evening.
