WEDDING

Curgenven—Knight

The wedding was solemnised recently at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, Kilbirnie, of Florence Amelia Curgeuven, daughter of Mrs. 11. E. Morris, Wellington South, and Neville Raymond, son of Mr. James Knight, Waiwetu Road, Lower Hutt. The Rev. E. J. Orange officiated, and Mr. Spencer Cooper was at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her uncle, Mr. F. L. Curgenveu, Christchurch, wore a charming gown of magnolia satin cut on princess lines anil made with long close-fitting sleeves buttoned to the elbow. The V-shaped neckline was outlined with tiny scallops. The slim-lltting skirt fell in a long train which was also scalloped. Her double tulle veil, which was beautifully embroidered, was held in place with a top-knot of orange blossom, and she carried a sheaf of scarlet cactus dahlias and autumn leaves.

The three bridesmaids, the Misses J. Fear, J. Collin and I. Knight, and the two flower-girls, June Morris and Glenis Nicol, were dressed alike in frocks of magnolia stiffened net over self-coloured satin, with red velvet sashes and tiny red velvet flowers outlining the boat-shaped necklines. Red butterflies in their hair and red velvet shoes were also worn. A sheaf of red cactus dahlias and autumn leaves was carried by each of the bridesmaids, and the flower-girls carried pleated muffs of stiffened tulle decorated with tiny red velvet flowers. The best, man was Mr. G. G. Knight, and Messrs. C. Knight and B. Curgenven, Christchurch, were groomsmen. Messrs. S. Diamond and D. MacMillan acted as ushers. During the signing of the register Mrs. F. Sim sang “Because.” On leaving the church the bridal party passed through a guard of honour formed by the members of the St. Giles girl guides of which the bride was captain until her 1 marriage. Before leaving the church the bride was presented with a horseshoe by Dudley Morris. The reception was held at the Airport Tearooms, which were tastefully decorated. Mrs. H. E. Morris received her guests wearing a frock of coronation blue and a shoulder spray of apricot flowers. Assisting her was Mrs. K. R. Knight, Levin, who wore a winecoloured frock and a shoulder-spray to tone. When the bride and bridegroom left for the South Island, the former travelled in a black tailored costume and a white satin blouse, with a smart black hat and accessories to match. She carried a brown musquash fur coat, the gift of the bridegroom. Thirty Years' Service Mrs. E. F. Allan, well known in Australia as “Vesta” of the “Melbourne Argus,” recently completed 30 years’ service with the “Argus.” To mark the occasion, a gathering representative of all the principal women’s organisations in Victoria was held in the Melbourne Town Hall, and the mayoress presented Mrs. Allan with a wallet of notes in appreciation of her work. Mrs. Allan, who was born iu Canterbury, and. graduated M.A., LL.B., at Canterbury College, is a sister of Misses Alice and Christina Henderson and Mrs. ■F. Carter, Sumner. The late Mrs. E. R. McCombs, M.P., was another sister.
