FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.
Mainly Fair To Cloudy, With Occasional Rain
Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, 'Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day: — "A shallow depression has crossed the South Island but is being followed by a slight secondary. An intense anti-cyclone covers the Tasman Sen. The forecast is for light to moderate northerly or north-westerly winds at first in Cook Strait and on the east coast from Canterbury northward ; otherwise west to south-west prevailing. South-westerlies or southerlies gradually becoming general, however, and freshening. Seas rather rough to rough about Foveaux Strait; elsewhere slight to moderate but later rising north of Farewell Spit and South of Castlepoint. Light to moderate south-west to southerly- winds and slight to moderate seas in the eastern Tasman Sea. Weather mainly fair to cloudy but changeable and with occasional but mainly light rain at many placets. Temperatures rather cooler.
