WELLINGTON BOYS’ INSTITUTE

Mr. W. A. Parton presided at. the monthly meeting of the Wellington Boys’ Institute and S. A. Rhodes Home. Mr. J. C. Riddell was welcomed as a new member of the management committee. The election of sub-committees for the ensuing year to deal with varied aspects of the institute’s work was completed. It was stated that the cricket season was one of the best yet experienced, and organisation of winter activities both on the sports field and in the gymnasium had been undertaken, with large num bers of boys participating. During the school holidays advantage was taken of the line weather to hold two picnics, one to’tbe Hutt Valley, with Rugby and Soccer matches against the Anglican Boys’ Home, and the other to Khnndnllah, visiting the Khnudallah reserve, in the morning, and in the afternoon, playing Rugby and Soccer matches against the Onslow bovs. Rugby and Soccer teams were taking part in regular competitions each week. Extension work Io the eastern suburbs bad been carried on and it was stated that there was every likelihood of, a big development in this connection in the future, a special sub-committee having been set up in this connection.
