G. PRICE VISITOR TO AWAPUNI

Yearlings Inspected Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North. May 25. One of the best-known horse trainers in Australia, Mr. G. Price, Sydney, is visiting Palmerston North. He is accompanied by Mrs. Price and they are making a honeymoon tour of the Dominion. They will sail for .Sydney on Friday. "It is almost impossible to buy a good horse in Australia. If one does come on the market the figure asked is simply terrific.” said Mr. Price in an interview. “I am looking for horses on this occasion but I hope to be back again next January for the yearling sales. I have had splendid successes with yearlings I have bought at past sales.” He said he had 24 horses in work at present and. as nominations for many important engagements closed next month, he wanted to get back to Sydney soon, although he regretted he could not enjoy fl longer stay in New Zealand. Eleven of his 24 horses were yearlings and among them was some promising material. Of his horses in training Gold Rod and Pandava were the two best performers. He considered the latter was one of the best two-year-olds in Australia. Since Gold Rod won the Epsom Handicap he had not shown good form, but Mr. Price had no doubt he would come right again. Yesterday Mr. Price went to Awapuni and inspected three youngsters which he purchased on behalf of Australian owners at the Trenthain sales last January. They are in .Mrs. A. W. McDonald’s stable. Mr. Price said he was well satisfied with the progress they have made. One. a Foxbridge—-Eager Rose colt, was purchased on behalf of Mr. AV. Longworth, but will not be trained by Mr. Price. The other two. a Night Raid —Coronilla filly, and a Limond—Thespian colt will, howeyer, join Mr. Price's stable when they are shipped to Sydney next month. The filly txjongs to Mr. E. J. Watt, a former New Zealand owner, and the colt to Sir James Murdoch.
