There was tin old Maori proverb which said, “You provide your stick and I’ll provide my stick and together we’ll chase the enemy away,” .said the Bishop of Aotea-roa, Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett, when speaking nt The Terrace Congregational Church, Wellington. last night “The dr.ink traffic is creating great havoc among the Maoris at the present time,” he said, “and the people will need a very big stick vv lll which to chase that evil away.” "As far as the problem of wives being eligible to vote is concerned,” said Cr. It. W. Bothtimley, tit the meeting of the Makara County Council yesterday, when referring to the conditions under which the franchise is exercised in the county, "everybody knows that till good wives vote Ute nay their husbands do. Extending the franchise to in -hide the wives of ratepayers would only mean that the number of votes p tiled by each person standing I'j- tiie conut-il would be'dotibled.”
