Women’s Part In Election
Dominion Special Service.
Palmerston North, May 25.
Many attractions were offered at a fair conducted by the Palmerston North women’s branch of the National Party which was opened in the Empire Hall this afternoon by Mr. J. A. Nash. Those responsible for the organisation of the fair are confident that a large sum will ■be raised to further the party’s campaign and judging by quick disposals on the stalls they will not be disappointed. Opening the fair, Mr. Nash said that in the coming general election women in this and other electorates would take a very prominent part. Their particular work deserved every encouragement. Competition awards by the judge. Mrs. D. Buchanan, Tiakitahuna. were as follows: —Coconut ice: Miss B. Driver, 1; Mrs. McLeod, 2; Miss E. Warren, 3. Turkish delight: Mrs. McLe_od, 1. Plain sponge: Mrs. Gaisford, 1. The stall-holders were: Cakes, Mesdames G. C. Keeble and Clayton, Misses Robinson and Warren; sweets, Mrs. 11. G. Mills, Miss Murray and helpers; bring-and-buy, Mrs. R. E. Gaisford and Miss Hewitt: tearooms, Mcsilames N. Blackmore, E. Bale and W. J. Phillips, Miss Whyte and helpers; produce, Mesdlimes A. Whitehead, G. H. Burns and Driver and helpers; miscellaneous, Mesdames W. F. Field and E. B. Jennings, Misses Owtram ami E. Field; ice-eream, Misses J. Burns and Z. Whitehead.
