Reports Of Meetings The following are the of meetings of women’s institutes: — Sandon. The monthly meeting of the Sandon Women’s Institute was held recently, the president, Mrs. J. L. Bowater piesiding over a fair attendance. Mrs. Bowater thanked Mrs. C. E. Eglinton for taking the chair during her absence. Correspondence concerning the drama competition was read, and it was decided to leave the arrangements to the committee. An interesting demonstration of rug-making was given by Mrs. 11. R. Masters, and Mrs. A. O. Gulbransen read her report on the council meeting. Members were asked to invite friends to the next monthly meeting, when Miss Johnson, from Massey College, is to give a lecture. Next month’s competition is to be coconut ice, which will be sold on the trading table. The results of the competitions were: Three scones, Mrs. T.-A. Adams, 1; Mrs. A. O. Gulbransen, 2;’ Mrs. C. E. Eglinton, 3. Best bloom in the garden: Mrs. A. O. Gulbransen, 1; Mrs. C. E. Eglinton, 2; Mrs. J. W. Beattie, 3. Hastwells. Mrs. Elliott presided at a recent meeting of the Hastwells Women’s Institute at which there was a very good attendance of members, including Mrs. Schormann, Mrs. Oliver and Miss Mitchell,' of the Eketahuna Women’s Institute, and Miss Schultz and Mrs. Baucke, of the Rongokokako Women’s Institute. Miss Mitchell demonstrated petal-work, and Mrs. Schormann demonstrated two ways of quilting, in which members displayed keen interest. The following were the results of the competitions: Ironed shirt i(senior), Miss A. Dick 1, Mrs. Broadbent 2, Mrs. Dick 3; ironed tablecloth (junior), Miss H. Madsen 1, Miss O. Halberg 2, Miss K. Larsen 3; flower competition. Mrs. Madsen 1, Miss I. Madsen 2, Mrs. Elliott 3; game, Miss V. Jones 1, Miss B. Kenny 2, Miss I. Madsen 3. The senior competition was judged by Mrs. Oliver and Mrs. Baucke, and the junior by Miss Mitchell and Mrs. Schormann. The hostesses were Mrs. J. Dick, Mrs. Morris and Miss A. Dick. During the afternoon Mrs. Morris sang a solo. Bulls. The monthly meeting of the Bulls Women's Institute was held recently, Mrs. Huddleston presiding over a very large attendance of members and visitors. One new member was welcomed. The secretary, Mrs. Smart, read the minutes and correspondence for the month, and invitations were received from Marton and Kapane to attend their birthday celebrations. A beautiful floral emblem was made by one of the members for the institute for Anzae Day. Mrs. Stewart gave a report of the North Wellington Conference. The competitions resulted as follows: Best article made from one yard of cretonne, Mrs. Button 1, Miss Richards 2; specimen bloom, Mrs. Homes I, Mrs. Ross 2. In conjunction with the institute ths Wanganui Electric Power Board gave an electric cooking demonstration, this being in the capable bands of Mrs. Barrington. Many useful economy hints were given and were appreciated by all. A heart vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs. Barrington. Woodville. When the Woodville Women's Institute met this month, Mrs. N. M. Burnett presided over a very good attendance. Before commencing business motions of sympathy were expressed with: the relatives of the late Mrs. M. Wicks, and with Mrs. C. Forbes in the death of her son. Mrs. H. P. Horne, the retiring mayoress, thanked members f.or the help and co-operation she had received during her term of office, and asked for a continuance of this support for the future mayoress. Appreciative remarks were expressed by the president of the work of three members, Mrs. Elder, Mrs. Henderson and Miss Stace, who have left the district. Best wishes were extended for their future welfare?. Mrs. Burlace and Mrs. Single were congratulated on their comprehensive reports on the recent federation meeting and received a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs. H. Paterson, Pahiatna, gave an interesting talk on “The Aims and Objects of the W.1.,” and spoke of its educative ideals and the wide scope for development it opened up for all members. The speaker particularly stressed tile importance of encouraging young girls to join the institute, where they would have an opportunity of developing their talents in handcrafts, music and drama. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Paterson for her much appreciated talk. The competition results were as follows: Best child’s lunch, Miss M. Hickson 1, Mrs. J. Oliver 2; best flower in the garden, Mrs. B. Hutching 1, Mrs. L. Hurley 2. Afternoon tea was served, and the meeting closed with the National Anthem.
