Statement About Treatment Of Prisoners
(Received May 26, 1 a.m.) Shanghai, May 25.
The “Domei” News Agency asserts that General Miyashita, the Japanese commander at Amoy, uttered a warning to the British consul, Mr. Nicholas Fitzmaurice, regarding a statement in the House of Commons that the Japanese massacred Chinese prisoners at Amoy. He pointed out that,, not only did they treat the prisoners kindly, but before their surrender the Japanese slowed the occupation to enable the Chinese civilians to reach the refugee zone.
