Wellington Markets Quiet A STEADIER TONE .V slightly better tone was apparent in the Wellington stock and share markets, though there was little change in prices. Trading was not active, but the volume of business recorded was greater than on Tuesday. Dealings were mainly in leading Australian issues, which sold at about late rate.

Less interest was shown in Government loans, and none at all in local body and company debentures. Banks remained dull, with little demand. New Zealands were quoted Id. better at 44/4 for the ordinaries and 29/5 for the D. mortgage issue. New South Wales were unchanged at £3l/5/-, sellers £32. Other issues were not wanted. Financial and pastorals were quiet, Goldsbrough Morts easing to 30/-, sellers 30/7. South British Insurance sold Id. better at 47/4. Little interest was shown in New Zealand industrials, prices of the few issues asked for showing little or no change. Australian Glass improved to business at 92/to 92/6. G. J. Coles were slightly, better on sales at 83/- to 83/3, but buyers stayed in at 82/6, sellers asking 83/-. Metals issues were neglected, and Mount Lyells weakened to 23/3. sellers 23/10.
