The annual meeting of the Dunedin Brewery and Malt Extract Company Ltd. was bold this afternoon.
'The chairman of directors. Air. W. Anderson, in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, said that the directors were very pleased with the result of the year’s trading. It had, however, been hard going. Costs continued to rise and wages were again to be increased, the second time within the year, and no relief could be expected in taxation. The directors were only now realising the added cost of the 40-hour week, lie mentioned these matters to give some idea of the continued heavy burden under which companies laboured at present.
Taking the brewery, (heir turnover showed an increase. The past summer had been exceptionally warm and naturally both brewery and bottling store had enjoyed good sales. Beer sales were largely controlled by the weather 'The brewery was.in splendid order am 1 condition, and further new machinery had been ordered some weeks ago and should lie installed and in full running order by the middle of September When completed, their bottling store would be practically right up to dale 'Hie machinery ordered was all automatic ami they anticipated a considerable saving in wages and other costs.
