MASTERTON GOLL

Interest In Wairarapa Championships HANDICAPS REDUCED Dominion Special Service. Mastertou. May 23. Keen interest is being taken in ’ the Wairarapa golf championships, which are to be played on the Lansdowne links on June 3. 4 and 5. Many entries have already come in, some of them from as far north ns Taihape. and also from the South Island. The New Zealand champion. J. Horuabrook. will be a contender, and in addition there will be J. and 11. Black. G. Horne, the scratch man from the Hutt, and C. V. Sutherland, the Miramar champion. Horne is regarded as one of the best iron players in the country to-day and it will be interesting to see how he shapes against Hornabrook. Distinct promise was shown by a number of Alastcrton players on Saturday. L. Connolly, playing exceptionally well on the 16 mark, did a net 65, reducing his handicap by two strokes, and A. H. Daniell, who is coming back to form, did a net 69,» and reduced his handicap. A net 70 was registered by A. Drew, whose handicap was also reduced. Playing in the morning, A. Shaw, the club professional, turned on some remarkably good golf. On the Lansdowne links he is improving his game, and if he keeps up his present form he will be hard to stop in the New Zealand championships.
