FARMERS' UNION

Women's Division Meetings The sixth annual meeting of the Eketahuna branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held recently in the Anglican Sunday School, the president, Miss A.'Anderson, presiding over a good attendance of members. Miss Anderson read a comprehensive r-eport of the year’s work, and thanked, the members, the secretary, and the treasurer, for their loyal support and co-operation. The treasurer, Miss Nancy Smith, presented a most satisfactory balance-sheet. Mrs. Hancock, on behalf of the members, presented Miss Anderson with a dainty posy, and the secretary, Mrs. E. Brittain, with a shoulder spray. The election of officers for the ensuing year then took place. The president and vice-presidents, with the addition of Mrs. F. O. Lamor, were reelected unopposed. Advisory members elected were Mrs. J. McAnulty and Mrs. E. Brittain. At the' conclusion of the business Miss Heckler gave an interesting talk on “Gardening.” The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. Watts and Mrs. McAnulty. Carterton Branch. The monthly meeting of the Carterton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held recently. Mrs. E. Allen presided. The recent combined ball, held under the auspices of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union, and the Young Farmers’ Club, was a great success, and a very satisfactory report was given by the secretaries. It was decided to hold -he branch birthday party on May 20 in the afternoon. 'There was a very pleasing display of flowers and shrubs' entered in the monthly competitions. The president complimented all the exhibitors, and' expressed the hope that increased interest would be taken in this special competition. The results of the competitions were: Best bloom, Mr. T. Anderson, 1; Miss M. Thompson, 2. Best shrub: Mrs. K. Reid, 1; Miss M. Thompson, 2. Kitchen article costing not more than 1/-: Mrs. W. Abbott, 1; Mrs. 0. Jensen, 2: Mrs. J. Taplln, 3. Bran biscuits: Mrs. J. Taplin, .1 amt 2; Mrs. Swan, 3. 'l’he meeting concluded with the serving of afternoon tea, the hostesses being Mrs. K. Reid, Mrs. H. Abbott, Mis. L. Humphries, and Mrs. H. Quin.

Mrs. Clifford Gibbs. Christchurch, and her children will leave next; week to spend a few days in Wellington before leaving for Hastings, where they will live.
