RICCARTON TRAINING

Horses To Race At Ashburton Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, May 10. Favourable conditions prevailed at Iliecarton yesterday, and much interesting work in view of the Ashburton meeting on Saturday was done on the No. 7 grass track, which provided slower going than usual. Paper Slipper, picked up by Every Port at the five furlongs, ran six furlongs in 1.15 3-5, which transpired to be the best gallop of the morning. Every Port, by Winning Hit from Sailor's Love, is to have her first race on Saturday, and on her track essays should make a good showing. Flnanclere and -Passenger were companions over five furlongs in 1.4 3-5. The former did not give a very pleasing display. Bebel Lad finished in front of Grey Honour at the end of six furlongs in 1.19 3-5. and Grampian, picked up by Parakino, recorded similar time. Dividend and Pelmet took 1.20 for the same journey, and others were Great Bramble 1.21, Rangemore and Dropped Catch 1.20 3-5, Waitaka and Mungatoon 1.20 3-5, Happy Night and Nightcalm 1.20. Swordstick and Gillie ran five furlongs in 1.5, Lady Leigh and Nolana recording similar time. The Masquerader took 1.7 and Locknit 1.5 2-5. Phalanx and Wjtgnei* galloped seven furlongs in 1.33 3-5, finishing together. Willie Win went over the same ground in 1.33. the first four in 51 3-5. .Studley Royal, joined by Settlement at the seven-furlong post, covered a mile in 1.45. the first half in 51 3-5. He’ is to be ridden by L. J. Ellis on Saturday. Steeplechasers School.

Flashlight, Punchestown, Chantear, Tom Cat, and .Tolly Beggar started off to jump eight of the steeplechase fences, but Chanteur dislodged his rider at the first. Flashlight and Puncliestown carried on together from Tom Cat, with Jolly Beggar, who gave them several lengths, bringing up the rear. All jumped well, the two first-named finishing together, clear of Jolly Beggar, with Tom Cat tiring. Flashlight again pleased and PunchestoWn showed he had not lost any -of his ability over obstacles. Jolly Beggar gave a fast and clean display and jumped best with, the pace on. Nightbound and Bright Red jumped four brush fences together, but Night.botintl stopped at the next, the sod wall, and refused in later attempts to cross it. He was then put over three more brushes, but his display was far from encouraging. Bright Red was responsible for an excellent showing over the eight fences. The Grasper and Courtyard were sent off in front of William Rufus to jump six hurdles. All went well until the fourth, which Courtyard evaded and William Rufus hit, losing his rider. The Grasper completed his task alone, but only scrambled over thp . last two hurdles. Obiiftyard Idler jumped these two fences, but did not go at al) kindly.
