Decisions
A proposal to allow tournaments open to both amateurs and professionals was rejected by a large majority at the annual meeting of the International Federation recently. Countries supporting the proposal were the United where there has always been considerable support for the plan, Australia, Japan, India and Brazil. A proposal by India that an international mixed doubles competition should be instituted, with a cup for the winners, was not seconded, and therefore dropped. . , , A. proposal, over which there has been a -ood deal of discussion recently, that there should be a second baseline and between this and the normal base'ine the server should be able to do, as he pleased, thus ’eliminating the footfault problem, was strongly opposed by the British delegates. It obtained 90 votes against 81, but failed because u did not get the requisite two-thirds majority. The proposal came from South Africa. The federation decided to have a president, and M. Pierre Gillou, president of the French Federation, was elected to hold that office for the first time.
