CANADIAN WHEAT
Producers’ Pool System Recommended
Ottawa, May 9.
Tlie Australian system of producers’ pools was recommended for Canada by the Royal Wheat Commission, with a provision that, it “should operate overseas with trade, not against it.” A compulsory Government pool was declared to be inadvisable either overseas or in Canada. Trading in futures by the Winnipeg Grain Exchange was approved. The sending of a permanent wheat official to London was recommended, with a view to securing new markets. Thq commission drew attention to the tariff adage, “You cannot sell if you do not buy,” and suggested the replacing of the present Government Board with an official to watch Canadian developments and to co-operate with the official in London.
