SHORTAGE OF LABOUR

Waterfront Exceptionally Busy

Yesterday was an exceptionally busy day on the Wellington waterfront, there being in port 12 overseas and intercolonial vessels, together with an unusually large number of coastal vessels. In consequence there was a serious shortage of waterfront labour, a number of ships, being idle all day, while several more -were able to obtain only a small proportion of the labour they required. To-day will be almost as busy and for the remainder of this week there will be no great improvement in the position, as six more big ships are due before next week-end. Next week also will be an. extremely busy one on the waterfront.
