ROAD CYCLING

Petone Club Opens Season The two opening events of the Petone Cycling Club's winter season were held on Saturday afternoon over a course starting and finishing at a point halfway between the Petone railway station and the Petone railway crossing. Bleak southerly conditions with intermittent rain made riding unpleasant, and fields were small. Two mass-start sealed-handicap races were held, senior and junior. A feature of the junior event was the performance of P. Pollock, who made fastest time. He is only 14 years of age, and this is his first season. Results of the races are as follows: — Junior, Eight Miles. —P. Anderson, 1; P Pollock, 2; G. Brown, 3. Fastest time. P. Pollock, 17.12. Senior, 16 Miles.—L. Anderson. 1; A. McDonald, 2; H. Kent, 3. Fastest times, T. Roe (scr.), 38.8 1-5; C. Biggs (scr.), 39.2 1-5. Cash Cycling Club. The Wellington Cash Cycling Club was to have held a 16-mile road race on Saturday afternoon, but it was postponed.
